Nigerian Teachers Sent Abroad For Training Refuse To Return After Graduation
The government of Jigawa State has suspend indefinitely in-service training courses for teachers following the action of some primary school teachers said to have gone for in-service training courses in universities across the world, but have refused to come back to Nigeria long after the completion of their studies and consequently, have not reported to their places of work.
The issue came up following the commencement of verification of primary school teachers across the 27 local government areas of the state. Not long ago, the Jigawa State government inaugurated a special verification committee aimed at smoking out ghost teachers and absentees.
As a result of the action of the teachers who absconded abroad, the government has not only been compelled to suspend in-service training courses, it has also set up special committee to find those involved and other workers in the education sector receiving salaries without coming to work. The government was angry and highly disappointed that the teachers betrayed its trust by remaining abroad when their expertise was needed back home
